Who we are
Our Solar System (3dsolarsystem.online) and its apps (the Our Solar System app for Apple Vision Pro, iPhone, iPad and Mac, the Qmax desktop app and the Mac screensaver) are made by Polyxmedia. Write to hello@polyxmedia.com about anything on this page.
The short version
The 3D viewer works without an account. We keep what we need to run accounts, purchases, reminders and support, and we measure how the site is used. We do not sell personal data, and there are no ads.
What we collect, and why
An account, if you make one. Your email address, a name if you give one, and your password (stored only as a one-way hash) or the sign-in codes we email you. We also keep when you joined and were last seen, the country your connection comes from (from our host's network, not your location), where you signed up (for example the game or a reminder) and whether you want our occasional news email. For each signed-in device we keep its IP address and browser name, so you stay signed in and can sign other devices out.
Game saves you keep in the cloud: your Qmax career and rocket designs, with a short history so you can roll back.
Purchases are taken by Stripe. We receive your email address, country, the amount and the tax; your card details go to Stripe and never reach us. The licence we issue is tied to the purchase.
Sky reminders and launch notices: the events you asked to hear about, and when we emailed you.
ISS pass alerts, if you turn them on: the place you picked, rounded to about 10 km, its name, your time zone, and when we last emailed you. We use them only to work out when the space station passes over and to send you the times. Your browser's location is used only when you press Use my location on the ISS page, to show passes there; it is sent to us only if you then turn alerts on, and then only rounded.
Support messages you send us, and our replies.
Usage statistics through Google Analytics: pages viewed and events such as which features are used and when a purchase starts. It sets cookies, and Google processes your IP address to do it.
Bot protection: when an account is created, Vercel BotID checks that a person is behind it.
On your device: your settings, the game career, licences and an anonymous id (used to switch features on for testing) are kept in your browser's storage and never leave it unless you sign in and sync.
The apps
The Our Solar System app on Apple Vision Pro, iPhone, iPad and Mac collects no data: no account, no analytics, no tracking and no advertising. Positions are computed on the device and your saves stay on it.
When it is online, the iPhone, iPad and Mac app downloads sharper imagery of the Earth, Moon and clouds and the latest satellite positions, from our servers, NASA (GIBS), EOX and CelesTrak. Those requests carry only what any download does, such as your IP address, and we do not keep them or link them to you.
Who handles it for us
Vercel hosts the site and its servers (United States). Neon stores the account database (United States). Stripe takes payments. Resend sends our email. Google provides Analytics and the fonts on our pages.
The Earth imagery is requested by your browser from NASA (GIBS) and EOX, and they see your IP address as any website you load from would. Satellite positions reach you through our server from CelesTrak.
How long we keep it
Account data stays until you delete the account. Purchase records are kept as long as tax and accounting law requires. Reminders are deleted a week after their event. An ISS alert is kept until you stop it, from the email, the ISS page or your account. Google Analytics keeps event data for up to 14 months.
Your choices and rights
From your account you can download everything we keep about you as a file, change your details, turn the news email off, and delete the account. Every reminder and ISS alert email has a one-click unsubscribe.
Wherever you live you can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it or to delete it, at the address above. In the UK and the EU you also have the right to restrict or object to how we use it, to take it elsewhere, and to complain to your data protection authority (in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office). We handle account, purchase and reminder data to provide what you asked for, security and bot checks in our legitimate interest, and the news email only with your agreement.
Children
The viewer is for everyone. Accounts are for people aged 13 and over.
