Our Solar System

Licensing for venues

The real solar system, in your venue.

Live 3D on a planetarium dome, a laser-projected room, a lobby screen or a room full of headsets: every planet where it is right now, at true scale, lit by the real Sun. Licensed for public display, and shaped to your space.

Where it fits

From a single screen to a whole dome.

The same engine runs the website, the screensaver, the live wallpapers and VR mode. For a venue it runs on your hardware, offline if you need it, and carries your name.

The Milky Way from outside, built from stars and dust

Domes and projected rooms

A live show across a planetarium dome or the walls of an immersive room, on laser projectors or any others. The real sky at this moment, the planets at true scale, the Milky Way and a black hole, built with you for your space, your projectors and your audience.

The top half of the Earth filling a screen

Screens and kiosks

The screensaver’s shows as an attract loop on a lobby screen or a video wall, running offline from one computer, with the full 3D viewer for visitors to explore where you want it hands-on.

Saturn and its rings

VR venues

VR mode on Meta Quest headsets: visitors float in orbit 400 km above the Earth, go to any world, stand inside the ISS Cupola and fly their own ship. Licensed per headset, as Meta’s commercial terms ask of venues.

Saturn and its rings off to one side

Questions

Good to know.

Is it the real solar system?

Yes. Every planet and moon is placed from its orbit for the current date and time, at true relative size and distance, and lit by the Sun from where it really is. The Moon follows the real sky, the Earth turns at its real rate, and the aurora and the Sun’s spots can follow NOAA’s live data.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. The desktop builds carry everything they show and run offline. Live data (the aurora, sunspots, the ISS’s orbit) comes in when there is a connection and falls back to recent copies when there is not.

What hardware does it need?

A recent Mac or Windows PC with a good graphics card for each screen or projector feed, or Meta Quest 3 headsets for VR. For domes and projected rooms we work out the outputs with you and your projection team.

Is the imagery cleared for public display?

The planet maps are CC BY 4.0, which allows commercial and public use with credit, and much of the rest is NASA imagery. Venue builds carry the credits and leave out anything not cleared for commercial display.

Can it carry our branding or languages?

Yes, on the venue tier and above: your logo and colours on the start screen, and the text in the languages your visitors speak.

Can you make a show for us?

Yes. A guided show for a dome, a story for an exhibit or an event, a particular mission or moment in the sky. Tell us what you have in mind and we will quote it.
